Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva has enacted a decree to revise civilian access to firearms and ammunition, modifying the more lenient policies of his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro.The intention is to control the amount of weaponry and ammunition accessible to civilians and limit the procurement of firearms by hunters, shooters, and collectors.The new decree entrusts the Federal Police with overseeing these groups, a role previously handled by the Army.It also imposes additional controls on shooting clubs, reestablishes distinct rules for weapons used by security agencies versus ordinary citizens, and shortens the duration of firearms registries .
