TEHRAN Iran's gas usage in the domestic and industrial sectors reached 582 million cubic meters on Sunday, a significant increase compared to the same day last year, according to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).
This represents an increase of 130 million cubic meters compared to the very same day in 2023, when consumption was notably lower. In reaction to the cold front sweeping throughout the country, gas consumption is expected to rise even more.
With the arrival of the cold front and a drop in temperature levels, gas intake in the property sector is anticipated to reach 600 million cubic meters by the end of the week, said Mohammad Kooshki, director of the National Gas Network Control Center.Gas usage in Iran tends to rise during the winter months due to the countrys heavy reliance on natural gas for heating.
As temperature levels drop, property and business gas usage spikes, putting included pressure on the national grid.
The increase in demand for heating, especially in the northern and main areas of the country, causes greater consumption rates in both urban and rural areas. In previous years, Iran has dealt with obstacles in conference this winter season need, often resulting in issues about supply lacks and the requirement for effective energy management.
The federal government has been working to stabilize gas distribution to ensure that important services are preserved while avoiding lacks for consumers. The seasonal increase in gas usage also highlights the continuous need for infrastructure upgrades and energy preservation steps.
With a large part of Iran's energy production devoted to domestic usage, particularly for heating, preserving stable supply during the winter season remains a key challenge for the energy sector.EF/
