Kathmandu, June 23
Chair of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives Shashi Shrestha summoned Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa over the ‘encounter killing& of Sarlahi in-charge of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal Kumar Poudel.
As per the panelorder, the home minister will have to appear before the panel tomorrow.
The panel took the decision after some members of the committee, including ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Janardan Sharma, condemned the incident, saying it resembled extra judicial killings committed by the autocratic Panchayat regime. Sharma said he received report that Poudel was brutally killed by security personnel.
Sharma also condemned law enforcement officers& treatment meted out to Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal lawmaker Resham Chaudhary during his treatment.
Chaudhary, who was convicted in Tikapur killing case, is serving a jail term in Dillibazaar prison.
Sharma also opposed governmentpolicies regarding federalism. Nepali Congress lawmaker Dila Sangraula also said that Poudel was a victim of extra judicial killing.
Another NC lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu said since the PM was acting against federalism the panel should seek explanation from the PM himself and not other ministers.
