Streaming giant Netflix has suspended its service in Russia, U.S. media reported Sunday, in protest at Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. 

The U.S.-based platform had already halted its acquisitions in Russia earlier this week, as well as its production of original programs.

Russia is recruiting Syrian fighters experienced in urban combat as it ramps up its assault on Ukraine, according to U.S. officials quoted by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday. 

Moscow, which launched an invasion into its Eastern European neighbor on Feb. 24, has in recent days recruited fighters from Syria hoping they can help take Kyiv, four U.S.
