How to protect against 'Apple' phishing scams

Checkpoint Research recently warned that criminals are exploiting the COVID-19 crisis with a wave of attempts to trick people into sharing their security credentials with fake emails.

To catch a phish

Apple, the research claims, is the most widely impersonated brand.

Phishing is the practice of impersonating legitimate messages from a brand in an email or other message in an attempt to trick people into accessing that service via insecure servers, sharing their login passwords and credentials when they do.

Criminals can then use this information to undermine account security, dig deeper into your identity to get even more confidential data, or even sell your details on the black market to other hackers.

Apple has unveiled its 4.7-in. $399 smartphone, introducing the device as the iPhone SE. The device will come in black, white, and (PRODUCT) RED, and it will be available for pre-order beginning Friday.

Apple$399 iPhone SE is introduced

The device meets many of the speculations that have been floating around for months with the exception of the name & many (including myself) had anticipated it would be called iPhone 9. It isn&t.

Otherwise, features include:

  • 4.7-in. Retina HD display.
  • Touch ID with Home button.
  • A13 Bionic chip.
  • Single camera, which supports Portrait mode.
  • Available in black, white and red.
  • Pricing starts at $399.
  • 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models.
  • Customers can purchase the device for $9.54 a month or $229 with trade-in.
  • Ships from April 24.
  • You get one-year of Apple's TV+ service free with the purchase.
  • iPhoneSE is water resistant to 1meter for 30minutes.

Touch ID is potentially more useful than Face ID if you wear a mask, as it relies on your fingerprint, rather than your face for biometric authentication. It is also worth observing that the iPhone 8 is no longer available at Apple's store.

BrandPost: The three most important words in business

So, what do you do?

We&ve all heard it or asked it before. Maybe it is the person sitting next to you on a plane or at an event or just standing in line somewhere. More often than not, the answer is a long-winded sales pitch no one asked for. Or it is what has long been called your elevator pitch. However, I like to point out, elevators are really fast these days. You need to have a short answer to make any sort of impact.

If you really want to get someoneattention and interest, learn to answer this question with three simple words.

Create rock stars.

You want it to be three words that just beg the questions, &What does that mean? What do you do?& Or even better, &Tell me more!& The three words are just enough to pique their interest and ask for just a bit more and, just like that, you have opened the door a bit.

Microsoft reiterates October end for Office 2010 support

Microsoft on Tuesday made clear it remains committed to ending support for Office 2010 in October, even though the company recently extended deadlines for other products, including some versions of Windows 10.

"Office 2016 for Mac and Office 2010 will reach their end of support on October 13, 2020," Microsoft's Office 365 team wrote on a company blog, referring to a date that had been set long ago. The post's title, "Reminder of changes coming to Office support in October," offers an unsubtle hint that a different date is unlikely.

BrandPost: Is a lack of application integration hurting your business? Herehow to ease the pain.

On Sept. 23, 1999, a NASA satellite reached Mars, where it was supposed to begin orbiting the planet. Instead, the Mars Climate Orbiter crashed into the planet. Why? A data integration error between two software programs caused the spacecraft to navigate too close to the planet, where it was likely destroyed in the atmosphere.

Thatan extreme example of what can happen when systems don&t work together. But it does illustrate the complex and unexpected issues that can come with a business-wide software upgrade. Itessential that applications mesh to ease data sharing and collaboration.

Thateasier said than done in todaycomplex IT environment. Ita safe bet that applications reside in many different locations across your business, both onsite and in the cloud. If they aren&t tightly integrated, employees will be hard-pressed to easily share information & which means they&ll default to more laborious methods such as manual copy/paste or sending documents via email.
