The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) has announced that it will not endorse any candidates running for the presidency in the upcoming early elections scheduled for August 20.According to a statement released on Twitter, CONAIE states that the candidates proposals fail to address crucial issues such as unemployment, healthcare, education, production, and plurinationality, which were agreed upon during their expanded council.CONAIEs resolution further highlights that the presidential aspirants neglect significant problems indigenous peoples and nationalities face, such as extractivism.Additionally, they either oppose popular consultations in areas like Yasun and the Andean Choc or claim that they will honor existing mining concessions. The communiqu, dated Monday, reveals that CONAIE and its structure will focus on supporting the Pachakutik candidates for the National Assembly, who are seeking election in the forthcoming polls.
